An open letter to our new residents

Dear Resident:

My name is Rick Wheat, and I am Director of Housing & Veteran Placement for Patriot Services Group, Inc. (PSG), a veteran-focused Not-For-Profit headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida.  Our organization is the new owner of your community along with dozens of others across the nation, and I wanted to take a brief moment to introduce PSG to you.

Founded in 2009, PSG’s mission is to provide America’s homeless veterans with affordable housing and independent transportation. In connection with our mission, PSG was able to acquire your community and will work to provide clean, safe, affordable housing to all our residents. We look forward to working together to achieve such goal.

Along with offering clean, safe, affordable housing to our residents, Patriot Services Group offers America’s “At-Risk” veterans assistance with permanent housingindependent transportation, and supportive services.  Based on the most recent count in January 2018, nearly 40,000 Veterans experienced homelessness in the U.S., accounting for just under 9% of all homeless adults, according to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  In the past 4 years, our Patriot Housing Initiative has helped place over 700 Veterans with clean, safe, and affordable permanent housing based on “real-life” terms and has established a new standard for veteran affordable housing across the nation.

We serve veterans and their families by connecting with local community service providers and coordinating efforts. As a supplement to local programs and providers, PSG empowers veterans and other specialists to provide more efficient, effective, and focused allocation of vital resources, drastically improving the chances of success. These programs and offerings, while geared toward veterans, are made available to the community at large and we encourage you to participate in them when it makes sense.

Change of any kind can be difficult, and a change that relates to one of your most important necessities, your home, can be terrifying.  I want to personally ease your anxiety and address concerns you might have about our plans for your community.

You probably already noticed construction crews swarming your neighborhood.  These folks are busy at work performing millions of dollars of improvements to your community as part of our capital improvement plan.  In certain circumstances they will be replacing roofs, siding, decks, making them brand new.  You may see improvements to your community amenities like pools or playgrounds, walkways and sidewalks.  They may be replacing old heat & a/c units and water heaters, fixtures or floorcovering in your particular unit.

PSG works tirelessly with our construction and management teams to try and address as many projects as possible. These improvements are funded, in large part, by the rents we collect, and unlike many for-profit ventures, we strive to redeploy money back into our properties, specifically communities like yours. The biggest thing you can do to help is working with management to update your leasing records, provide necessary contact information and work to ensure your rent payments are all made timely. Those items are critical to being able to maximize our reinvestment in your community!

All of these improvements are to make your home more livable, more enjoyable.  You are very important to us.  We appreciate you, and we want to keep you as a resident.  If you have any questions or concerns, your first inquiry is to your Community Manager. It is extremely important that you communicate with them and make them aware of circumstances in your life and in the community so they can be presented to ownership.

Thanks for being one of our folks!

Sincerely,

Rick Wheat
