Revitalizing veteran affordable housing within
Jacksonville’s Urban Core
The most “Military and Veteran Friendly City in the United States,” Jacksonville is home to a large and growing Veteran community. Area military installations such as Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Kings Bay Naval Base, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Naval Aviation Depot Jacksonville and Marine Corps Blount Island Command support thousands of active duty, reserve and civilian men and women, accounting for 17% of Duval county’s economy and providing nearly 100,000 jobs. However, studies predict that a majority of these service members will experience difficulty when exiting the military and adjusting to civilian life which can lead to larger problems such as joblessness, homelessness, and untreated mental health conditions.
The Springfield Initiative offers “At-Risk” Veterans clean, safe, and affordable transitional and permanent housing simultaneously preserving and revitalizing one of Jacksonville’s most historic and treasured neighborhoods:
